Vocabulario

Ayudar a los estudiantes a construir su Vocabulario les ayuda a entender lo que leen. Cuando los lectores se encuentran con palabras desconocidas, la comprensión se desmorona. Aprender estrategias para descifrar nuevas palabras es un paso crítico para convertirse en un lector fluido. El Vocabulario de los niños pequeños también apoya una mayor automatización al deletrear palabras.

Ideas Principales

El conocimiento del Vocabulario involucra patrones de sonido almacenados (fonología) y representaciones mentales de significados.

Hay cuatro distinciones dentro del vocabulario de un aprendiz.

  • La amplitud del Vocabulario es la cantidad de palabras que el estudiante comprende, al menos superficialmente.
  • La profundidad del Vocabulario es el grado al que el estudiante conoce las propiedades de las palabras, incluidas definiciones, ortografía, pronunciación y propiedades sintácticas y morfológicas.
  • El Vocabulario Receptivo son las palabras comprendidas por el oyente.
  • El Vocabulario Productivo o Expresivo son las palabras producidas apropiadamente en contexto por el hablante.

Típicamente, el crecimiento del Vocabulario es relativamente lento hasta que un aprendiz tiene de 50 a 100 palabras de vocabulario productivo o expresivo, usualmente al final del segundo año de vida. En este punto, es común un salto repentino en el desarrollo (“explosión del vocabulario”) donde los aprendices añaden entre 10 y 20 nuevas palabras por semana.
